{christmas-time}
This weekend it is definitely, officially Christmas time! We're finally getting around to finding (and decorating) the perfect tree and going to our first holiday party of the season!
The weather has decided to warm up a bit, which doesn't sound very Christmas-y but will allow us to finally put some lights up on the house!
I've been getting in the spirit by crafting and wrapping and lighting candles every night. And by eating way too many mint m&ms and buying holiday throw pillows and ribbons. And singing carols all day long.
Oh, and we've also been frantically remodeling the guest bathroom in one last mad effort to get it done before the holiday company is upon us!

{just another wednesday}
This week has brought us an icy, frozen storm! With temperatures reaching 10 below, we're huddling up inside with coffee. I am feeling incredibly blessed because we manged to get our heater fixed just hours before the temperatures dropped! As long as it's toasty inside I am enthralled with the magic of the falling snow and frozen temps!
This week is also bringing a visit from my youngest nephew (oh, and his parents, too) and also a lot of re-organizing and re-arranging of furniture! Gotta make room for the Christmas tree! I'm also working a lot trying to catch up from my time off last week and finally getting around to hanging some pictures and painting a few rooms!
How is it that the busier I get, the more I feel I can take on and accomplish? It's some weirdly inverse time relationship that I can't quite seem to figure out, but I'm willing to enjoy the bursts of energy and feelings of accomplishment while they last! I think part of it is just the joy of this season gives me more hustle and bustle than usual!
If you need me, I'll be guzzling hot coffee topped with whipped cream and merrily sweeping the floor in preparation for pulling out all the holiday stops!

Happy {holidays} Weekend!
I can't wait to spend so much time with our loved ones. I can't wait to hand out gifts, to sing carols by the fire, to have long heart to hearts and to party, party, party!
I am so thankful at this time of year to be able to spend time with family celebrating the birth of our Savior. His blessings are so abundant and His grace overflows on me, and I am so grateful.

Happy {get in the spirit} Weekend
We are supposed to have a big snow storm this weekend. I'm also hoping to get a Christmas tree and decorate the house a little bit! We won't be home for Christmas, but I still want to make it a little bit festive around here. To be honest, I haven't really been in a Christmas mood. Somehow, I'm just not ready. I haven't managed to make any presents or wear any really chunky sweaters or dance to my favorite Christmas songs. Maybe the snow will help with my Christmas spirit.

Crafty Christmas Gift Idea: Wooden Spoons
Last year, I made almost all of my Christmas presents for other people. A few of the dudes got store-bought items, because, lets face it, it's hard to craft for guys. But all the women in my life got hand-made gifts courtesy of moi! I had such a blast crafting for my family and friends, and it really helped fill up my time when I first moved up here and didn't have much going on.
This year is a very, very different story. I've been busier than I could have imagined in the past few months, and things keep coming at an alarming pace. I love my life, but it hasn't left nearly enough time for present making. I haven't made a single gift, in fact!
So I thought I'd pass some of my ideas on to you, since I've got no time or energy to complete them myself.
I'm calling this the wooden spoon gift set idea. Dye some boring wooden spoons with paint or something and you have a unique and fun gift for the chef in your life! Or for that decorista who likes a matchy-matchy kitchen.

A simplified list of {favorite childhood Christmas traditions}
2. Waking up and staring impatiently at the clock, and that moment when you're finally allowed to rush down to open your stocking
3. Mom putting every single hair tie from her stocking in her hair at once
4. Getting to be the person to pass out all the presents
5. Shaking and squeezing boxes in order to try and determine what they are
6. The whole family singing beautiful Christmas carols around the tree on Christmas Eve
7. Pumpkin pie
8. Hanging around for hours in PJ's and Christmas socks
9. Eating candy before breakfast
10. Surprises
11. Rotating slowly in front of the fire so that you stay warm on all fronts

My Christmas Table: before and after
I wanted to give you all another glimpse into my decorating madness.
Here's what my table looked like between Thanksgiving decorations and Christmas decorations:

I got those adorable mugs at Anthropologie on Black Friday!
Here's our tiny, dorky little crooked Christmas tree. I kind of love it. It's potted, so we can plant it after Christmas! See how many presents I had to transport to Albuquerque!
And now, for my Christmas table, also utilizing many of the same elements, because let's face it, only rich people can have brand new stuff every time around ;)
(also of note, I did indeed try to iron the table cloth. I think I need to wash it and THEN iron it in order to get those crazy wrinkles out. lesson learned)
Here it is! I love it, yay! You can't tell in the pictures, but the table cloth is kind of a shimmery plaid. It's nifty.
Notice that I remembered to set out silverware and cups this time!
I seriously love this plant.
I had most of the elements, but I did buy the bell garland and little red hearts($1 for 3!) at Target. The glasses are from the thrift store, as are the little reindeer.
I know I won't actually be home for Christmas, but my parent's are coming back with us the day after, so I wanted to make things festive for their visit. Besides, I love this stuff!

Fa la la la la!
We're loading up the car today with heaps and heaps of presents to take back home for the holidays! I've crafted and shopped and wrapped until my back hurt and my fingers twitched, and finally I get to give all the goodies away! One of the very best feelings is giving the perfect gift, one that I know will be treasured.

Tonight is the night for holiday parties galore!
Phillip has a work party, followed by a white elephant exchange with our church group, and then we'll hopefully make it downtown in time for my friend Christine's birthday party!
I'm searching my closet and wracking my brain to come up with the perfect sparkly outfit to celebrate the season.

Christmas prep
I told you I'd be busy this week!
My Monday was filled with appointments and meetings and a dinner date with my sister-in-law and brother-in-law.
We finally got our tree on Tuesday after I spent a long day wrapping presents galore and trying to finish up my shopping. I spent a while on Tuesday night decorating and putting the presents under the tree. Hopefully I'll get the house cleaned up enough before we leave to take a few shots of our decor for you! I'm loving the tabletop, which should be no surprise to you!
Yesterday I had to leave the house at 7:15 and was gone pretty much all day long. I had a physical therapy appointment where they stuck maybe 50 or more charged needles into my back and neck to try to shock my muscles into submission. That was the weirdest, achey-est experience. And since then my back has been so so sore. But hopefully it will help in the long run. I spent the rest of the day helping my grandmother decorate her tree, did a tiny bit of shopping, followed almost immediately by AWANA club. Last night I was so sleepy and sore, we ate a very late dinner and I took a bath and went to bed.
Today I get to stay home, mostly, with a small interruption for a quick get together with a friend. I have to clean the house, finish decorating, wrap more presents, and possibly make just a few more crafts for a few more friends. Tomorrow it's off to the races, with a white elephant party and a birthday bash to attend, as well as packing for another week away. And in between the activities of the next few days, I'll attempt to write a few more posts to keep you entertained with while I'm away.
And to top it all off, I'm on day four of my "no-sugar pre-Christmas detox program," which basically means that I haven't had sugar of any kind since Sunday and the lack of chocolate will either kill me or make me stronger.
But once I'm done with all the little chores and tasks and errands, we'll be back at my parent's once again and celebrating in earnest with friends and loved ones.

Craft day
Today I'm back to crafting like crazy as I try to get all of my Christmas presents done before going to Albuquerque next week. I have at least 3 crafts going at once right now (because I have to wait on paint to dry and such) and my pointer finger is both bruised and burned, but so far its been a productive day. What are you up to on this fine Tuesday?
