*yawn

Oh, hi Monday. You arrived way too quickly.
The weekend flew by delightfully. I pretty much started playing on Thursday night with a special sneak peek showing of Man of Steel and never really slowed down until last night. My brother Isaac and sister in law Melissa came to town and I spent Friday afternoon driving around with them, drinking coffee, and antiquing. They dropped me off at my house and I immediately ran out the door to have dinner with some friends. We didn't get home until 1:30am.
And then we were up and at 'em again bright and early Saturday morning. Isaac, Melissa, Phillip and I went up to Castlewoood Canyon State Park to hike.
Isaac displays his superiority over the boulder.
The man-made dam. I climbed up this monster, there were giant steps I had to lunge up that really make your buns burn. Yay!
And the gorgeous view from the top.
A beautiful butterfly on a cactus flower. I love this state.
After the hiking there was an old car show, a late lunch at a pastry shop, gelato, more antiquing, and general sibling fun. We got home, scarfed down a quick dinner, and hurried over to our friends house to work on costumes for The Dirty Dash.
On Sunday we were again up bright and early to compete (I use that word loosely) in our first fun run! I signed up for this while I was still on crutches as a motivator and I'm so glad I was able to finish, even if there was no "running" on my part.
Pre-race. The four of us were Power Rangers. 'Cause we're cool like that.
Phillip and I, post-race. There were tons of obstacles, like hay bales to leap and walls to climb and muddy pits to crawl through. We had an absolute blast. Also, please note my tutu. Also, these pics were stolen from Terra.
After showers and another late lunch we hung around with Darren and Terra until evening, when we came home to finally rest and eat popcorn for dinner.
And that is the story of why I am so tired.
I hope you had an absolutely fantastic weekend!

Happy {slightly awry} Weekend

A few things have gone awry since my post on Wednesday. For starters, my laptop screen, which has been acting a tiny bit off for a few months, completely stopped working on Wednesday afternoon. Forunately, Phillip thinks I can get a new one for a very reasonable price, but until then, I may have relatively limited access to the interwebs.
Last night, after months of playing as the only girl on a men's soccer team, I finally joined a co-ed team. Within the first five minutes of the game, a heavy guy smashed into me and knocked me to the ground. No big deal, happens all the time. I finished the game. Duh.
Uh. No.
My left shoulder apparently was not amused by the major impact with first the man and then the ground. I could barely sleep last night because it wouldn't stop hurting no matter how I lay. I went to the doctor today and the good news is that it shouldn't be a permanent problem, I haven't torn my rotator cuff or anything serious. The bad news being that there's nothing to be done but ice it and take ibuprofen. Oh, and not lift my arm above my waist. No big deal ;) I just have to get help when turning on light switches, putting on sweaters, and brushing my hair.
But all bad news aside, it's shaping up to be a beautifully free weekend! I have absolutely no plans yet, and I like it that way!
I hope you have a fantastically free Fall weekend!

The good, the bad, and the ugly

I'm still recovering a bit from my weekend. I know. That sounds lame. But I went to San Antonio and played five soccer games in two days on a sprained ankle in 100 degrees/100% humidity. Also I'm the only girl on a men's military team in a men's all-military tournament. I rock. ;) It was truly awesome but also majorly exhausting. I stayed with my amazing cousin Erin and we had way, way too much fun together. I was definitely too sore to laugh like that! Of course I took zero pictures, because all that sweat isn't pretty. So you'll just have to trust me that the only thing actually photo-worthy are my new neon pink soccer socks. And right now they're dirty.
But now that I'm back I'm hitting the ground running with a small house update for you!
I should seriously go out of town more often, because Phillip got so much done at home without me! Here are the lights he installed in the kitchen. I love them. These are terrible pictures, I didn't feel like cleaning anything at all before I took them, and so they are "real." Yep, that's how we live, with stuff all over the counters. Just focus on the pretty, shiny new lights.
He also managed to clean out our garage so that we can actually fit two cars inside! I think his protective side kicked in because he seemed really motivated to make it possible for Emily and I to both park in there. There is obviously still tons of junk (old dishwasher, anyone?), but we'll need a truck to haul that away.
And speaking of hauling away, here's the really ugly part. Our living/dining room has been the final resting place for all the trash related to the kitchen remodel. And since we don't have a truck, there it has stayed. It's just.....wow.
But here's the great news! My grandpapa is coming over tomorrow with his truck to help me take it all away to the dump! I am seriously so excited!
That's about all that's happening on my end. What's new with you?

{want it}

I'm back from a long, long weekend filled with barbecues, kitchen work, sleeping in and staying up late. I have slightly burned shoulders and more freckles on my nose and plans to continue that trend for the rest of the summer. I'm trying to work up the courage to go join the base soccer team tonight. They're starting their season with three full days of try-outs, and as much as I want to play again, I desperately don't want to try out! I'm trying hard to want it more, but it's a struggle today. Sometimes my shy personality takes over and I just can't stand the thought of joining a new team or getting out there with strangers to compete for a spot when I just want to play for fun. I know. The hard decisions I face are truly life-changing.
Hope you had a wonderful weekend and are looking forward to this short week!

Must be...

I'm so sorry about my long absence! I've been travelling all around without internet access and then I got a new laptop! Which is so exciting, but I am still getting set up and transferring files. Hopefully I can get back into the swing of things next week! For now, I am running a lot in my new Reebok RunTone shoes (thanks, Isaac!) so I can be skinny for summer! I hope you all have a fabulous week! Thanks for hanging in there through all of my crazy transitions!

Soccer

A new soccer season starts in 2 weeks, and I am really excited. I haven't been exercising quite enough and can't wait to run around chasing the old ball. Its been on my mind the last few days as I try to organize the team for the new season. Players keep emailing me, dropping out and signing up and complaining that they can't afford the $45 it will cost to register. I can't wait for the season to actually start, so that all of this confusion will be over and I can focus on running around and knocking other people down. I seriously love this game.
