Dandelion

“You cannot forget if you would those golden kisses all over the cheeks of the meadow, queerly called dandelions.”
Henry Ward Beecher
My friend once got in a fight with her boyfriend over whether dandelions were flowers or weeds. I think she won, because at their wedding, she wore enormous dandelions in her hair and dryed hundered of little dandelions for decorations.
I couldn't agree with her more. Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved finding and wishing and blowing on dandelions or making dandelion chains for my hair and neck. Even now, when I know I'm not supposed to want dandelions in my lawn, I can't resist picking them and gently blowing the beautiful seed pods free. I can't imagine a world where avid gardeners have eliminated every last dandelion. What a tradgedy that would be! I dare you to find and blow a dandelion this weekend! I want to perpetuate their existence for another generation of dreamy little girls.

  1. The great thing about dandelions is that they are one of the few flowers nobody yells at you for picking when you're little...

PS I love making clover chains at the park, too!
