Contribution

My mom was a stay at home wife and mother to five. She always said it was the most rewarding and fun job in the whole world. I always wanted to be just like her. For now, I'm staying home and getting our house in order, trying to turn it into a home. And, although I had my doubts about how busy/bored I would be, I am loving it! I love this poster, because I can't tell you how many times I told people that I aspired to be a wife and mother and was met with looks of disgust. People seem to think that stay at home wives are a drain on society and aren't making a contribution. So I'm glad someone out there saw the value in making a house a home.

(PS this wasn't intended to make working women feel badly, cross my heart)

  1. I really liked that poster. I saved it to my files. A reminder for when I get bogged down with the world's view of what a woman should be doing. Thanks for the encouragement! I sometimes wonder how it is after you first get married, so now I won't be so fearful of boredom! :D

  2. I read an article where a husband and wife were getting quotes for life insurance, and the insurance agent was telling them how much coverage they would need to be able to continue in their current lifestyle if one of them should die. The wife was a stay-at-home mom of 2 kids, and it turned out that her quote was almost twice that of her working husbands'! It would cost that much to hire someone to do all her jobs! I remind myself of that every time I feel discouraged about my job as a stay at home wife and mom. And that is just the financial worth...probably the least important of the wife's contribution...

  3. the best part of staying at home with your children is that you know all kinds of stuff about them to blackmail/embarass/harass them with when you get old and need help getting up. It hasn't worked for me, yet, but I heard that's a fringe possibility..... You know I'm kidding. The blessings are just too inumerable to even write down or discuss. Just know it's worth every minute of your life!! Also, I remember you saying you wanted to be a wife and stay at home mom, and I admired you even more. It's obvious that you're talented, intelligent, and very beautiful - so you could do WHATEVER you want. The fact that you wanted to give the best you had to your husband and family impressed me so much. I'm very proud of who you are becoming!!! You're an excellent example for my girls!
