Thursday's Child: Boy v. Girl

All through my teenage years, I can remember having one vehement thought about my future children: I wanted ALL boys.
Why, you ask? Because girls are crazy, obnoxious, dramatic, ridiculous, sneaky, and just plain mean. I should know. I'm a girl.
I thought surely boys would be much, much easier to raise. They get in a fist fight and then get up and shake hands and return to normal. They don't hold grudges, their attitudes seems to be more under control, and they are far less dramatic. I wouldn't have to worry about immodest clothing or about them being out late at night alone. I know how much trouble I caused in my own family, and I figured I could just avoid it by having all boys!
Since that time, I've come to realize that it's not all smooth sailing with boys. Lots of boys have bad attitudes and get in trouble late at night. If their girlfriend gets pregnant, it's just as big a deal for the boy. And I have known quite a few guys to be very dramatic.
And, trouble/drama balances aside, I just plain love little girl things. Since I started looking for Thursday's Child material, I have had a lot of fun with the girly rooms. There are also so many adorable little girl's clothes: tutu's, lace, ruffles, tights, shoes!
But in my heart, I am now hoping I can have both boys and girls. I want to experience both, to play both sports and dress up, to deal with broken bones and broken dolls. It would be so fun to watch them and see the similarities and differences, to see how they interact with each other. I am so glad I had both a brother and sisters, and I want the same for my kids.
What do you think, moms? Is it easier to raise one sex over the other? And if you don't have kids, do you want one sex more than the other?

  1. I don't think either are easy!! They aren't necessarily hard, but I had no idea it was going to take so much out of me to be a parent. I love it, though!! I guess I should say, though, that I've found the girls to be easier only because I can relate to them. There are just so many times I have to ask John, "Is this normal??" Because, honestly, I just wonder about these boys sometimes......

  2. I SOOOO wanted a boy! So did Dan. Someone to carry on the Maroney name - and I just knew Dan would be a great dad to a boy... not that he wouldn't be good for a girl - but the stress of a girl would have killed him! At the ultrasound I bawled when they told me it was a boy.
