Warm, snuggly, fall

My very favorite morning ritual is picking out what mug to drink my coffee from. It seems like a silly thing, but there are certain mugs I just love, and others that I never ever choose. And I choose different mugs altogether if I'm drinking tea. I have a set of matching mugs (they also match the plates and bowls) and I always serve coffee to guests in those. Phillip uses them, too, but I never do. I don't like how wide they are at the mouth, I think they spill too easily. So why do I give them to guests? Because it wouldn't be fair to the mugs to never use them at all! Likewise, there is one spoon in my drawer that doesn't match any of its mates. It is a little old and beat up and the bowl is definitely not smooth. I can't stand to put it in my mouth, but I keep it there and use it to stir pots or scoop leftovers. I can't seem to throw it away.
I don't know why I'm telling you this. I guess maybe because anyone who reads this blog knows I'm already a bit nuts?
Do you ever personify inanimate objects? Or get "cup guilt" or something related when you play favorites with your things? Or am I alone in the craziness?
I just noticed that the pillow in the second picture says "Don't get mad, get even!" I was trying to tell my mother-in-law about how people have been making hilarious cross-stitch patterns with witty or unexpected sayings, but I couldn't think of any examples, so she just ended up staring at me in confusion until I changed the subject. For some reason, I really think my brother-in-law would get a kick out of a totally unexpected cross-stitch, instead of the very pretty but very normal ones she normally makes. I think it's hilarious when something traditional is warped a little bit. It's so surprising and fun.
Apparently this post should have been titled "random leftover thoughts on Fridays."
We're hopefully heading down to Albuquerque sometimes tonight or tomorrow morning to visit family, see my mom sing in a fabulous concert, and maybe meet my friend's brand new baby girl! I'm hoping there's a little bit of time in there to snuggle by the fire and do other fun fall activities.
Have a great weekend!

  3. I feel guilty for that sort of thing all the time! I'm the same way about mugs, clothes, shoes, pillow cases, etc. Maybe we're just obsessed with fairness...

And you're cute. I enjoy you.
