Deployment Gear

We're starting to gear up for the deployment. Phillip is starting to gather up his uniforms and start to prep his stuff. So I figured while he is busy buying new camo and stacking up MRE's, I'd gear up too!

I absolutely love the stuff for sale over on At Ease Designs! I put all four of these shirts in my cart and am still trying to narrow it down to a reasonable number! Which one would you choose? I wear a medium, just in case you were wondering!

For the love of {icy blue}

Normally in the winter I am all about bright, warm hues to bring life and heat back into the cold, dreary world. I crave bold colors and rich textures and warmth. But sometimes you just have to embrace the cold and take your inspiration from what's going on outside you. Find your hues in the snow and ice and pale wintry skies. I'm majorly inspired by this icy blue, aren't you?

{mustard}

I've got a huge crush on mustard right now.  It's everywhere in fashion and decor and I'm always drawn to it, whether in small doses or large. It's just so warm and glowing and cheerful! I think it's one of those fall colors that will keep coming back. At least I hope so!

As much as I'd love to rock that sparkly Jenny Packham dress, I'm going to have to stick to hints of mustard in my home or on the lower half of my body, because every time I hold mustard up to my face I turn pale as a love-struck vampire. And we can't have that, now can we?

Happy {first of fall} Weekend!

Fall is officially beginning this weekend, and I am caught up in my typical excitement over the changing seasons. I think Fall may be my very favorite season of all! (I think I say that about every season, but who's counting!)

I want to take full advantage of the crunchy leaves, brown boots, scarves and sweaters, and hot hot coffee.

I want to go apple-picking and do loads of baking and get more excited than usual about Halloween costumes. I want to craft and sew and spend the mornings under quilts and the afternoons with the sun warming my body. 

I want pumpkins and gourds and mums to surround my house like a protecting army of orange. I want to drink cider and eat pumpkin seeds til I'm thoroughly sick and ready for winter. 

What is your favorite season? What are you most excited to do this Fall?

For the love of {florals}

I am a huge fan of floral prints. Unfortunately, Phillip is definitely not.

When we were registering for wedding gifts all those years ago he systematically shot me down every time I suggested anything with a floral print. Apparently floral prints are too girly. Flowers on our china? No. Floral curtains? No. Floral bedding? NO. There were no flowers allowed anywhere.

I've managed to sneak a few florals in here and there, mostly in the form of decorations in the guest room where he's not likely to care. But I still want more. 

This Spring I may have to score a few floral pieces for my wardrobe to satisfy my flower obsession.

Nothing wrong with a girl being girly when her house can't, right?

For the love of {yellow dresses}

It's Spring. And we all know that means brighter colors, warmer temperatures, and flowers blooming! Well, everywhere except here, apparently, because the temperature hasn't made it past freezing in several days. Nevertheless, I'm having a love affair with long yellow dresses. Not that I have much of anywhere to wear such a thing. Maybe I can hunt one down in a more casual form.

Thursday's child: Dinosaur

I've gotta say, even as a grown woman I still get really excited about dinosaurs. Something about them is just so fascinating and fun to me. They are mystical creatures that really did exist. 

When I have kids, you can bet your buttons they'll be dressed up like dinosaurs about half the time.

For the love of {plaid}

There is nothing quite as warm as a soft flannel plaid. Just this morning I was reminiscing about a certain plaid flannel shirt that I gave away last year. What was I thinking? Plaid is just so perfectly toasty and festive for this time of year. I can't decide if I prefer the bright, traditional red or the more muted green and navy. Right now I'm crushing on both. So if you're still looking for a Christmas gift for me, consider yourself  thoroughly informed.

This weekend finally began to feel like Fall.

The mornings and evenings are now deliciously cool and crisp with pleasant breezes and delightful smells. We hosted a small group party on Friday and I made pumpkin muffins to share. Also Phillip bought me some beautiful Fall flowers and we went for several walks and runs in the cool evening air. 

And now the weather has me thinking about perfect layers, brown leather, and gold accessories. 

And of course the most fabulous red ombre hair imaginable. 

I see a few new sweaters on my horizon - they are always, always on my Fall shopping list.
